Very often

Very often I lose myself to my past, very often I lose myself to mistake others might do, I get worried if someone's ignorance can hurt me. Very often I live with compromises. The fact is that the real world we are living in is far from the ideal beautiful world we read in the books. I am not sure if the promised freedom is real anymore, at least for me. We are living in a world of marvels and technological miracles, nevertheless we don't have the time or opportunity to enjoy it. Very often we are battling wind mills instead of laying under an oriental plane. I remember Hikmat has a poem about how he wishes he could put an oriental plane above his shoulders, instead of his head and take a rest.
I got the car upgraded with more comfort for this summer trip. To be honest I don't feel better and it seems it has been steady decline, but I will go crazy if I don't go outside. Somehow I should forget things.
I enjoyed driving to the local pond and national forest with Twyla. She loves it outside. She is slowing down and I feel she is aging. So we enjoy every moment we have together. What a blessing!

DIY ultralight pyramid tent for 2+ or 1+dog or 1+ bike

 This is my new DIY project. I have been making tents for last 5 years and I've tried different types. When I started backpacking I purchased a double wall, fully enclosed tent  (so called ultralight tent; market crap).  Most people don't really need these tents and they are not ultralight at all. I switched to a tarp when I started thru-hiking and I fell in love with it's simplicity. Tarp is fantastic. I tried copying zpacks solo tents then. It is a great design.   This time I was looking for a larger tent that can fit my dog as well and it's not as miserable looking as a tarp (people think you are broken!). I always resisted the idea of using a pyramid tent but after a lot of thoughts I settled down with a pyramid tent and I must confess this design offers fantastic features. This was a wonderful hiking loop in Weminuche wilderness. I also section hiked one small part of the continental divide trail. The view is spectacular.

Summer Solstice- Long Days Journey

Summer officially begins after the sun reaches the summer solstice, however people consider the time between the Memorial Day and the Labor Day as summer. The delayed warmth kicks in after the longest day and around here we are talking about temperatures above 100 F. From astronomical point of view there are two important reasons for this heat: the sun is higher in the sky and it remains in the sky for longer time because days are longer. These two effects combined, produce higher temperature. This is not a comfortable temperature or sometimes it is not safe for hiking. Thankfully I have so many projects to complete. For example I just finished sewing a new roof-bag. It turned out nice and we will see how it holds against elements. The fabric is ballistic nylon so my only concern is stitches and webbing.
